MISS WORLD PHILIPPINES WINNERS 2013

The 2013 Miss World Philippines finals night was held recently at the plush Solaire Resorts Hotel and Casino. Movie and tv star and host Megan Young bagged the title besting 25 other candidates. Megan will represent the Philippines in the Miss World beauty pageant on September 28 in Jakarta, Indonesia. She also bagged most of the special awards given that night. Runners up are: 1st Princess - Janicel Lubina, 2nd Princess - Zahra Saldua, 3rd Princess - Bianca Paz and 4th Princess - Omarie Linn Osuna.

TV REVIEW: " MY HUSBAND'S LOVER " PHENOMENAL TELESERYE

Eversince "My Husband's Lover" premiered on Primetime television three and a half weeks ago, the Phenomenal GMA Channel 7 teleserye has been receiving favorable reviews from all sectors of society, and has been a consistent top trender on one of the most powerful and visible social media which is Twitter. It has already been a daily habit for avid viewers to tweet their comments and views every time the teleserye airs every night at 9:30pm on GMA. In fact, since Day 1 of it's telecast, it has consistently been trending every night up to this day, which is already on its 17th episode. Critics have hailed the series as very contemporary and realistic. The performances of its lead stars namely Dennis Trillo, Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana are being praised to the heavens, and even its powerhouse supporting cast namely Chanda Romero, Kuh Ledesma, Glydel Mercado, Karel Marquez, Roi Vinzon, Victor Basa, Kevin Santos and Bettina Carlos have been giving spectacular performances as well. The series' director Dominic Zapata has indeed been doing a great job with his efficient and remarkable direction, and of course, the writer Suzette Doctolero has megged a very successful plot. It's the very first time in Philippine television that such a theme has been tackled..that of a homosexual relationship. A married gay man who is in love with another gay man.
Although there have been a number of sectors of society, like the CBCP who have been criticizing the series because of its moral values, a great majority of society have accepted this kind of theme and have been religiously watching the series nightly. In fact, its rival series Apoy sa Dagat, which topbills some of ABSCBN's top stars, decided to end the show due to its dismal showing on the ratings game, being toppled by My Husbands Lover. It has been rating really very well since it had its initial telecast, and has continued to fare well since then. Our congratulations to the entire cast and crew and to GMA for coming up with an entirely different plot, and giving the televiewers something new. We are getting sick and tired of teleseryes which center on twins, adultery, kidnapping, hatred, revenge, sibling rivalry, rich boy-poor girl scenarios.

Miss Philippines Earth Winners 2013

The 2013 Miss Philippines Earth was held last May 19th at the SM MOA Arena. 25 yr old Angelee delos Reyes from Olongapo won the coveted title of Miss Philippines Earth for 2013. Angelee is a beauty pageant veteran, having joined the Binibining Pilipinas before. The other winners are: Miss Philippines Eco Tourism is Bernadette Mae Aguirre, Miss Philippines Earth Fire - Alma Cabasal, Miss Philippines Earth Water - Nancy Leonard and Miss Philippines Earth Wind - Kimverlyn Suiza.

BALAI HILOM/LAMON

 

We have always called it "Balai Hilom" but later on started calling it "Balai Lamon" since the food has always been superb, and everyone simply loves to eat, and eat and eat, and are mostly foodies! I have returned to Balai Hilom last April 26th, and stayed until April 29th. It was actually a triple birthday celebration for my Tita Rose, Tita Cris and Girlie Soriano. Balai Hilom's proprietor and hostess, the ever hospitable Linda Lyttle Reyes made sure everyone felt so at home and comfortable. After all, family is first and foremost! That is why she made sure that her mom Tita Cris, her aunts Tita Rose, Tita Charito, Tita Lally, who happens to be my mom, my cousin Sarci Rabat and her sister Malutch, and our family friend Girlie Soriano all had a pleasant stay. My other cousin Pepito Albert and his loving brother Sito followed the day after. It was such a pleasant and enjoyable stay, and there will definitely be a part ii soon. And one more creature added color, my long lost friend Leo Espinosa, who also has a lovely beach house in Matuod.

Binibining Pilipinas 2013 Winners

The Binibining Pilipinas 2013 coronation night culminated last Sunday night. They celebrated their 50th year, and featured past beauty queen titleholders from 1964 up to the present. 24 year old Ariella Arida bagged the Binibining Pilipinas Universe title. She will represent the country in the Miss Universe in December. Ariella is a Chemistry graduate from the University of the Philippines, and stands 5'8. She was also adjudged Best in Swimsuit. Binibining Pilipinas International went to Bea Rose Santiago, who also won Binibining Avon. Binibining Pilipinas Tourism went to Joanna Cindy Miranda. She was also named Binibining Cream Silk and Binibining Petron. Binibining Pilipinas Supranational went to Mutya Johanna Datul. Mutya also bagged the Best in Evening Gown and Miss Photogenic special awards. 1st runner up went to Pia Wurtzbach. Pia is a Star Magic talent, and was also named Binibining San Miguel Zero.
Among those who made it among the 15 semi-finalists were Maria Angela de Leon, who is the daughter of actor Christopher de leon and actress Sandy Andolong, and Starstruck avenger Rhea Nakpil. Hosts for the evening were Martin Nievera, Dawn Zulueta, Venus Raj and Chamsey Supsup.

New Kid On The Block: Alden Richards

Alden Richards is the newest and latest heartthrob of GMA7. Richard Faulkersen is his real name, and he first gained popularity with the afternoon soap "Alakdana" and was finally noticed when he was chosen as the male lead in the primetime teleserye  "One True Love" which was a resounding hit, and a top-rater.  He was also praised for his sensitive portrayal of a demented and deranged boy in the movie "The Road" and has also appeared in several top grossing films like "Panday" and "Sossy problems." He is slated to appear in another primetime teleserye entitled "Mundo Mo'y Akin" which will pair him again with perennial love team Louise de los Reyes, under the direction of Andoy Ranay, who also directed him in One True Love. It is a star studded teleserye, which included the newest Kapuso star Lauren Young, who has moved from the Kapamilya network to GMA7, Sunshine Dizon, Angelika de la Cruz, Gabby Eigennman, Jolina Magdangal and Jaclyn Jose. Alden is also one of Cosmopolitan magazine's favorite hunks. He is predicted by many as the most promising actor, and will be a big star soon!

February 25, 2013: It was a very memorable event, since very good friends from way way back got together after so many years. We dined and drank at Crazy Garlic in Greenbelt 5, and had espresso and pastries in Bizu. My high school groupmates Anton Bilbao, Jing Mina, Panky Francisco and Eric Diaz looked really radiant and good, and so were our other good friends Tina Mayoralgo, Joey Labarinto and Carmelo Alday. It was indeed a fabulous and spectacular get-together! An occasion we will always cherish!
